Coldplay & Spiderman

Oh, what do they have in common? Well how about this AMAZING song. Lee and I managed to get some good seats to watch The Amazing Spiderman last night seeing as it was ALL SOLD OUT on Saturday night. I must say when this song came on during his discovery scene, it made me all fuzzy inside. LOVE Coldplay!

Midnight In Paris

Last week Monday night the girls and I went to watch Midnight in Paris at Cinema Nouveau. If you have not seen it yet I advise you get your paws on this DVD when it comes to stores!
The movie is set in the most picturesque parts of Paris. Directed and written by one of my favourite, Woody Allen. The movie stars Owen Wilson, Gil, and Rachel McAdams, Inez, an engaged couple who visit Paris with her parents. Inez gets caught up in sight seeing with an old lecturer crush whilst Gil would rather be exploring the old Hollywood glamour of the 1920's in Paris. On a midnight stroll around Paris he finds himself going back into the 1920's where he meets various famous characters and interacts with the likes of writer, Ernst Hemmingway, Artist, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. He finds himself in this era and it causes him to rethink the life he has now...
A stunning movie with the most beautiful scenery and a 1920's glam lifestyle you just want to jump into!

Fantastic Mr. Fox

A Roald Dahl novel turned into film by director, Wes Anderson. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a brilliant film with the most incredible animation and characters.

With actors such as George Clooney, Owen Wilson and Meryl Streep as the voices the characters are so real and tangible.
Take a look at some pics from the movie...
Mr. Fox giving a speech as always...
Mr. Fox's son and nephew on the mission to get his dad's tail back.
A moment before breakfast between Mr and Mrs. Fox.
I advise you give this a try and no, it is no children's film. All that is left to say is "You really are a, quote, unquote, fantastic fox."

Sucker Punch

So I told you about The Secret of Moonacre... Now it's time for a big screen chat...

Sucker Punch has hit(no pun intended) the big screen lately and without seeing a trailer or even hearing the name before I went to watch it with some mates.
Here is my review :

Stars : 4/5  5/5

I loved this movie actually and some may have heard some bad crits online but this really is one to test yourself.

Sucker Punch is a story about a girl, Baby Doll(Emily Browning), who loses her family to her stepfather and he makes sure she is sent away so that he can take the family riches. She lands up in a mental hospital and before you know it she is making a way out...

She puts herself into another world and copes in this world of dancing to entertain men by fighting the various battles within herself through her dancing. When Baby Doll dances she mesmerizes everyone around her and through that she is able to get the 4 things she needs to escape this place. The story takes a huge twist and turn when her friends get involved in trying to escape too and Baby Doll makes a huge sacrifice for some one else...

With actresses like Emily Browning of Lemony Snickets Series of Unfortunate Events, Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical and Abbie Cornish of Candy.

The Secret of Moonacre

This weekend I watched many a movie and one was a DVD. This is how the choice making went.

Me : I could watch a DVD.
Soldier : Mmmm. Sounds good.

Vroom vroom. Park. Click. Beep beep. "No Name Brand DVD Store".

Me : Um... why not get an old one for fun? (Knowing we have officially watched all the "Hot Off The Circuit" DVD's when they were on the circuit).
Soldier : Hm. Let's look. Hey they have (I  don't hear this part because it is probably a terrible action I am not interested in).

15 minutes later...

Soldier : They have this one. Flips cover over to start the long convincing read.
Me : Let's just take it. Grabs the disc before he can read it.

1 x The Secret of Moonacre bought on a whim... R25 later.
The Secret of Moonacre is a film directed by Gabor Csupo who directed the film "Bridge to Terabithia" (which we all cried like little girls in). It is adapted from the book "The Little White Horse" by Elizabeth Goudge. This book was J.K. Rowling's best book as a child (that's a nice thing to know).
The Secret of Moonacre is a beautiful movie about Maria (Dakota Blue Richards as from The Golden Compass), a lovely lady who loses her dad and with him, everything. He leaves her a book however which unveils her destiny.
This book is written to explain the happenings of Moonacre which is where Maria moves to when she is passed on to her Uncle. Moonacre is under a curse due to two families' pride and Maria must break the curse by finding the magic pearls and releasing them into the ocean.

The movie really touched me spiritually as I felt that it was a direct translation of our lives - we all have a huge destiny and something we need to break in our lives, but it will take a much bigger sacrifice than our possessions to lift the curse...

I don't want to go into much more detail as I don't want to ruin the movie if you are planning to hit your nearest "No Name Brand DVD Store". I really encourage you to watch this film and enjoy it!

Les Triplettes De Belleville

A few years back I went to watch a very arty movie at the Cinema Nevou with my best (girl)friend. This movie was very arb as no one spoke a word... The Triplettes De Belleville is a french film about a boy who is fascinated with cycling and does cycle races too. One day he gets kid napped and his grandmother, who raised him goes in search to find him, along with old faithful Bruno, her dog.

The Triplettes De Belville are a trio of music, and quite fine french tunes of course... Along the way they entertain us in the travel of grandmother and grandson. And dog.
***I may have gotten this somewhat wrong as it is a talk-free movie so what you get is what it is. Please take a look at the site www.filmarobics.com to get a better synopsis.

My fascination is with the graphics and style within the movie. An animation of its kind is to praised as I and other designers feel it is something to work from. Have a look at some pictures from throughout the movie.
Bruno and Grandma
The movie poster. Try look for it as it is amazing!
